Contextual Statement
The topic that my team had decided was about Paper Cup, which is talking how much paper cup that people used to damage the environment. The reason our team chose about this idea is that paper cup is something that relates to our daily life, the goal of our group is to encourage people to use your own cup instead of a paper cup. Understanding that paper cups that we use in our daily life is damaging the environment. The paper cups that are not able to recycle is creating more waste to the world. (Notaras, 2009). The first problem shown up is the problem of cutting down trees. In 2007, it is estimated that 1.3 tons of paper cups were manufactured. In the US alone, 58 billion paper cups are used every year. With the loss of trees, the environment suffers from carbon absorption incapacity. (The Environmental Effect Of Paper Coffee Cups, n.d.). Damaging the green environment is only one of the problem of making paper cups. The material to make a paper cup are not recyclable, it generally made with virgin paper plus a wax more likely plastic coating to keep beverages from soaking through and leaking, during the process it requires a lot of trees, oil, energy and also chemicals. (Himoff, 2016). It took a long process to create paper cups which are not able to recycle, is adding more trash to the world. The factory that makes paper cups is releasing a huge amount of pollution. Although it is damaging our living, the main problem is that decreasing the green environment is destroy the tool that to filter the pollution to clean air. (Kinver, 2016). To sum up, the series behind making paper cups is a negative impact to the world, it seems like something that will not be harm to the environment because it is small and light, but when the process behind is discovered, it can be seen that the paper cups that we use in our daily life has already become a significant problem that we have to be realise. Since we knowing that paper cups should not be used, there is a solution for it, which is encoring people not using people paper. In this industry, there are many different design or mugs (Own Cup) which have already encouraged the people to bring their own cup. The reason of why should we use our own cups is because it is environment-friendly, you are able to reusable with any process, and the people use their own cups, it can bring a huge positive impact on the green environment. (Blackburn, 2009). Our team is not trying to create another design of mug to attract people to bring their own cup. Since the message still has potential to be discovered, our team is trying to have a deeper understanding of the different between bring your own cups and using paper cups, by thinking another method of how we should encourage the world to use their own cups instead of paper cups.
