Paper cup

My group had decided to work on an idea of Paper cup, which is talking about how people waste paper cups, the reason we chose this topic is because we ignored the potential of the problem can create. Paper cup is something that we might use every day, the amount of one person can waste it is not much. But when everyone does the same thing, it will be a lot. Paper cup has a potential risk that we have not aware. In fact, paper cup created a huge environmental damage to the green environment.

Poster Inspiration

I'm designing a poster in my group to support the project. I wanted to design some poster which looks interesting, so I went online and look through different design of how they put all the message in one picture, and I really like the style of this type of poster.

Poster I

Since I referenced the poster from my research, I had made few posters which try to support my project. However, the poster I had is not able to support my project, because my project aiming to show the audience not using paper cups, but the poster I had made is showing the audience about the green environment.

My lecture raised a good point of my poster by not being interactive. There were no creativity to attract the audience to spend time with my poster, it is not something that impressive them. So to take the feedback from my lecture, and try to create a poster which can be interactive with the audience

Interactive Poster

It wasn't easy to come out an interactive poster in a short time. It was urgent to create a poster for my the video in my group because we are filming on that week, so I have to come out an idea which can interactive with the audience. The picture of the paper cup is the cover of the information when people open it, they can see the information behind. Since there are limitation for my ability, that is only what I can come out within a short period, however, it is working to support the video on my team.

I had received a feedback from my lecture, which the problem I had in this poster is that not many people would like to spend time with that amount of information. However, it is another good start for me. For the next challenge, I need to think how to get the message across with less word and more interactive.

Stage 2

Catch up

Since we had our direction for what to do, planning the step is very important, We are planning using video for our last exhibition, but there is so much improvement that we can work on.

What is our plan?

So our plan is making the website, and video collects together, not sure will it be the final outcome, but we are planning to make it interactive to the audience, which our goal is to try to get the message across by interacting with the audience.

Interactive Poster Concept

What am I doing

I’m trying to design a different poster which able to interactive with the audience, I had design two different interactive posters.

"Draw your own cup" Poster

The first poster allows the audience draw their own cup which is unique, and to design, a skin for them to put on the cup or an actual cup is to encourage them to bring their own cup. But I think it is not strong enough to persuade them to bring their own cup.

Selfie Poster

The second poster is that whenever people take their own cup and take a selfie to a poster on society(Instagram or the website we have, which they can get a discount to get a drink.

What is next

Both posters have different ways to interact with the audience, but I need to think deeper and more precise to decide which poster I should choose and to improve on.

Video editing

Since most of the information that we want to present are settled, we had developed the script for the video that we are going to use for our final. After I made the video by following the script, we find that the message we want to present is not clear. Thank you that We got help from other and the lecture, we have adjusted the placement for our script, the message is more clear and the video are smoother than before. And finally, I will improve the rest of the thing for our video.

Final video

Ater everything we have got, my team also agreed with the editing for the video. I had added some text information for the picture to make it easier to understand the content that we are trying to present. Also, I put the subtitle with the main character talking, in case people cannot hear the volume during the exhibition

Final - set up

Finally, we had finished the poster, website and the poster with our final adjustment,. We printed and laminated the poster which allows the audience to draw to create their own cup. And the TV beside is showing our overall message which can get our message across to the audience directly.

Semester 2

Studio VI - Transmedia/Future Worlds

Technologies are improving every day, the movie is hard of a big industry in the world. At the very beginning, the movie is beginning with black and white colors, the special effect they have are all by hand made. Later on, many movies’ special effects are created from a computer, and they have beautiful color with it.

Nowadays, technology has improved to another level, the idea of virtual reality has start take a role of game industry and movie industry. Yet, they are still developing how to make a good movie with VR.

In the future, VR might also will elimination by a better device “5D movie”, it connects you with the movie is the computer world. which people can able to experience the actual character, they become part of the movie.

Future World

Our project is about Teleport in the future. We had decided to make to short film to present our idea, which might require a lot of technical skill. In this moment, my role is to study about how to use after effect to make the video looks like a future. Even for a 10-second video, it might take me an hour to learn to do it

Teleportation can destroy economy?

The script we are making is want to present the different perspective between the good and the bad sides of teleportation. Although teleportation is making the world more convenient, it can also create the bad impact to the society. Yes, teleport make everything efficiency but is destroying many jobs, such as express delivery, transport economy. This is an idea that we might put in the script, to show the conflict about teleportation.

Teleportation Research

Teleportation seems like something that everyone wants it to happen in the future, but have you think of what is the potential problem that it can be. Even though teleportation become reality, there are consequences. From this Youtube video that I had found had including many researchers from different books about teleportation. The majority of the ideal teleportation is about through Quantum to transfer an organism to another location.

Open mind question

The question is that when you teleport, are you able to transfer 100% of the Quantum from one side to the other side?

When you Teleport to another place, what if the organism does not show up in the other location, where will it be?

What is the probability of success?

This question has still not yet to answer because we are still only on the surface of knowing about teleportation. It required many maths and science to discover more about it.

Conclusion

In short, teleportation is still needed a lot of time to discover how does it work, and the science never denied it won’t happen in the future.

Preparation

Since we are clear the direction of our idea, we are going to make a short film shows what is the future looks like. We want to plan the story with a clear picture of the technology of the future. During the planning, we have to be aware of how is my team going to do the effect. Because of the skill level that we have, there is a limit for adding the effect. Since our beginning idea was about teleportation, we still want to keep this idea become part of the project. We didn’t make teleportation as the main message that we want to present, but we still made it relate in this film.

Beginning for the film

Design for hologram

Before we start making the hologram for the film, we designed the outlook for the hologram, so when we are going to take effect, it will avoid to make mistake and save more time. There are different types of the hologram for different scenes. But for the idea of action in the film, the main character is going to interact with the hologram, therefore even though we have planned out the layout for the hologram, it’s hard for us to design the movement because it is taking more unnecessary time to design. So we had separated the clip for each person is going to make. And we can add the effect on by what is the concept in our head.

After effect

This is the first clip that I begin with. This is one of the clip takes a huge amount of effect into it, it is not really hard, but taking a lot of time. Because for some of the effect, I just to adjust each frame of the video. I took around 2 days to get this clip done, and it is around 25 seconds. I quite enjoy the process, it takes a lot of effort and time, but it is coming with the effect exactly what I want. And I am quite satisfied with it. The problem that I have with the clips is too big, the amount of the effect that I put increase significantly the size of the video. It is 1.4GB just for this 25 seconds clips, and the short film will be around 5-7 minutes, So the challenge that I have now is to figure it out how to keep the effect that I have and make the size down.

After effect add on

It took me loooooooooooooooooooooooong time to make this. Time and effect is not the struggle that I have, the struggle that I have the ram on my computer. Because of the amount of effect that I put, it slows my computer a lot to make this project. But this is 95% of the clip that I have done. All I need to do now is adding the teleport effect for this clip, it might take a bit of time again. And the cool thing about this video is the computer voice! Although I haven’t started to record the voice actor for the computer, I believe the result will be cool at the end!.

After effect second clip

I started to make the second clip. I’m making the teleport effect for this clip. However, I don’t really like the effect that I have atm, it is quite fake and not fancy.

Outdoor filming

We went outdoor to filming today, the good things were that the weather is good today, When Sunny is here, the weather becomes sunny. We filmed for the whole day. We used GoPro, Cannon Camera and iPhone to filming for this scene because it requires different angel at the same time. For Sunny and I have to keep work hard to the filming, but for the actors, they can just have fun

Further editing

After filming, I have to back to the editing. For the teleport effect, it’s not that hard, but require a lot of time to do it. To make the people disappear is easy, but to add the light for the teleport effect is annoying. Each light is one effect, for one person there are around 25 lights, for 4 persons, there is around 100 up effects. Because I want to make it realistic, so during teleport effect, I asked the actor just move around, but end up only 1 is moving. But I glad there is only one person did it because for matching the teleport night, I have to track his position and the size, took quite a bit of time.

Clothes changing

The effect in this one is all characters change their clothes, there are three main hardest things during the editing. First is the scan effect have to match the character movement for each frame, I wouldn’t say it’s that hard, but really time-consuming, I spent days just for this 5 seconds effect. It takes longer than the previous clothes changing effect because it’s 4 people. For the second one is hard, this scene is filming in a different time, I have to film that the character with their normal clothes and to beach clothes. Unfortunately, while waiting they getting change, the camera moved a little bit, so I have to adjust the shot to match the other shot in after effect. The last thing is the lighting since the actor needs time to get change, the color of the scene is changed, I spend a lot of time to match the perfect lighting. However I did not manage to make it because I am really not good and coloring the scene, so after I finish the effect for this scene, I will pass it on to sunny to adjust the lighting.

The last few effects

I have done the hardest clip already, so I started to make the effect for the rest of it, it is not hard to make this both effect. It just takes a bit of time and matching the effect with each frame. I can quickly to finish this effect. I have done all of the effects that my group need. But I am not intending to stop here since I still have a time, I want to add more effect into other scenes to make it look more like future.

Final shooting

This is the final shooting for the video, even though there is only less than 20 second we need, but we took 3 hours and more to finish. There is an effect that we wanted to cut out, which we supposedly need a green screen at the back, but we cannot find a green towel, so we used a red one instead, and it still manages to make it works.

Effect Render

Finally, I have finished all the effect that I need to be done with, it took such a long time to edit all, and also quite a bit of time to render. The size of each clip is huge, almost 3GB for each one. But after I put in the premier, it will compress to a smaller file. And now I passed all the clip to my member so he can put the sound effect into each clip, and after he done it, I will start finishing the editing for the whole short film.

Final Render

Looks like rendering going to be easy at the end, but it’s not! This is not the first time I have done a film, usually after rendering, there will be some problem coming out after you render, and it actually happened more than I expect. We have few times problem on the sound, don’t know why every time we rendered, there will be a glitch sound in two scenes. I render more than 5 times with the setting “Youtube HD 1080″, and it’s screw up every time. Finally, my team suggested me to use a setting called “Full HD 25″, and finally, it works. Every time you render, it took around 20 to 30 minutes, and the total of time that we tried to render, took around 4 hours. Oh well, at least it works at the end!
